Before you start planning your home theater, think about drawing out a floor plan.  In the floor plan make sure to take note of where all the power outlets are.  In the floor plan play with the design and placement  of the equipment.  Figure out if you want to build in wall speakers or free standing, as this will make a difference on how much space you have.

Next, choose a style and design that compliments your personal preferences and best fits into your home decor.

Next, figure out where you want your television screen.  Keep in mind the size and shape of the television and the room itslef.  Determine if you are going to mount the screen or if it is going to sit on an entertainment center.

Next, make sure you have the ability to control your lighting scheme. The best way to do this is by using a home automation controller.  These controlers will allow you to control the whole room with just one remote.  Which comes in handy  as you can control all of it without having to get out of your comfortable chair.

If you have a bigger budget and really want to go all out, you can find unique ways to design your theater.  Design your own marquis, add drapery, plush seating, you can even add an authentic popcorn machine  and candy counter.

Once completed make sure to use it.  It isn’t worth it if you are not going to use it.  So, make sure to have friends and family over and watch a classic movie or the latest blockbuster.
