I work as a group facilitator for some of the alcohol recovery and abuse classes here in town. It is a great job really and I am incredibly thankful for the people I get to work with. For the most part the men and women who walk through my doors are required to be there. Usually they have been sentenced to the classes and come in under no choice of their own. While this can be difficult, it is also incredibly rewarding to see the changes that the go through over the course of our ten week program. Some of the clients I see are coming at the recommendation of their Denver criminal lawyer or a local Denver DUI attorney. I have gotten to know several of the criminal attorneys in the area and have found that they are always very eager to have certified classes they can recommend to their clients. They make sure to find reputable programs that they know the judges will approve of for their clients plea bargains or sentencing. I have learned so much about the legal process by proxy of my clients. While my role is really to help them through their emotional journey, it is always helpful to know what they are going through in the more practical and legal areas of their journey outside of my office. I really enjoy that I can make my groups applicable for the clients in not only their legal aid but also in learning more of how they can handle their lives better.
